AC (Alternating Current, as opposed to DC, Direct Current) is the electricity flow type. The solar panel converts photons (particles of sunlight) into electrons of Direct Current (“DC”) electricity. Solar power inverters take the Direct Current (DC) that the solar panel generates and converts it to Alternating Current (AC) that is delivered to the load. Direct Current is converted to Alternating Current because all the appliances in our homes are designed to use alternating current. This is because electricity is delivered to our homes via long distance power lines and it is cheaper to transmit AC over long distances.
