Megawatt, denoted as MW, is a unit of measurement of power. It is typically used to measure the power output of all types of power plants, including solar.

While typical thermal power plants fired by coal or natural gas have capacities in 100s of MWs, some of them over 1000 MW, ground mounted solar and wind power plants usually are much smaller, typically ranging from 1 MW to 100 MW.
