Ribbon PV Cells – Definition, Glossary, Details – Solar Mango

Ribbon PV cells are solar cells shaped as long strips. They are produced when high temperature resistant wires are pulled through molten silicon to form a multi-crystalline ribbon of silicon crystals. The ribbon is then cut into lengths which are treated with traditional processes to form solar cells. By this process, ribbon PV cells use less silicon compared to wafer production.Though they use a less expensive manufacturing technology, they have lower efficiency than wafer technology.
